A creative group of Whirligiggers!

~ A Fun & Creative Bunch of Whirligig Makers ~

Well, I have to say that I won'y forget this whirligig workshop.  I little while ago I received an email from one of these women, let's call her Jenny F., who had driven by our studio and was so excited to see that we held workshops in how to make our whimsical whirligigs by repurposing old stuff.  She is an artist who uses old tin objects in her art so her head is already in that "recycled" space.  It didn't take her long to get a few friends on board to fill a workshop.  This was a fun crew.  They all are artists that deal with recycling and repurposing in their work and I would suggest checking out what they do by visiting their sites and blogs.  Here is what they created that day.

                  Jenny Fillius                                Deborah Paul

           Ross Palmer Beecher                        Diane Kurzyna

Meeting new people and getting to know them a bit is something I really enjoy about the workshops at hutch.  Thanks to Jenny and the fact that she is so nice and has many friends future whirligig workshops are filling up fast.  So give me a call or email and maybe you can get in on one.

Paper House Light Workshop

~ Paper House Light Workshop ~

It was cold and rainy outside today, but inside Hutch it was warm, cozy, and full of creative activity.  The second workshop devote to the spectacular Paper House Light took place in the center room.  Book pages were carefully selected and then folded and formed into delicate houses.  By the end of day as it became darker outside, the room illuminated with the glow of these lights.

Normally in the 3 hour time frame of the workshop we can complete a 12 house light similar to the red one pictured above or the cream one below.

But if you are very fast and ambitious you may want to tackle a big light like the first one pictured or the one that was recently featured on the HGTV design show "Dear Genevieve".

So if you like cutting and folding fun paper and uniquely fantastic lights give hutch a call to sign up for the next workshop.  There will be one on March 14th and one on April 11th.

A Special Gift

~ A Special Gift ~

Well I suffered a serious bump on the noggin today and it was due to trying to do a task too quickly.  Rush rush rush,  I was in the backyard attempting to set a post for a special whirligig that I made for my soon to be 4 year old son.  I stood up too quickly and bonked my head on his very low basketball rim.  A few hours and a few staples later I seem to be doing fine but the whirligig never got installed.  Maybe in a couple of days I will get back out there.  Anyway, here it is for you all to enjoy.  You probably guessed by now that he loves trains.
